Navigating Project Milestones

Updated over a week ago

On Codeable, we recognize that large-scale WordPress projects are significant investments that require meticulous planning. To make development more accessible and manageable, we recommend utilizing a Milestone Structure.

This approach breaks a broad Scope of Work (SoW) into smaller, actionable phases, providing clarity and financial flexibility for both clients and experts.

Why Choose Milestones?

Dividing a project into distinct phases, such as Discovery, Development, and Testing, offers several key advantages:

  • Improved Cash Flow: Instead of funding the entire project upfront, you can manage your budget by paying for one milestone at a time, only funding the next phase once the previous one is successfully finished.

  • Defined Progress: Review and approve specific deliverables at the end of each phase before committing to the next.

  • Reduced Risk: Step-by-step validation ensures the final product aligns perfectly with your expectations.

  • Flexibility: Pace the project according to your specific business needs and budget cycles.

How the Process Works

If an estimate feels like a significant commitment or the scope is particularly complex, here is how to transition to milestones:

  1. Scope Breakdown

Request a breakdown from your expert. They will divide the SoW into logical segments, such as:

    • Milestone 1: UI/UX Design & Mockups

    • Milestone 2: Core Functionality Development

    • Milestone 3: QA, Testing, and Final Launch

  2. Adjusting the Project Cost

Once the cost for Milestone 1 is agreed upon, the expert or our support team will adjust the main project price to match it. Funding this initial amount moves the project into a "Paid" state so work can begin immediately.

  3. Creating Additional Tasks

All subsequent milestones are set up as Additional Tasks. Your expert can create all of the following phases at once for full transparency or add them sequentially as each phase is finished.

Important Guidelines

  • Timing is Key: Milestones must be implemented before a project is funded. Please note that once a full payment has been made, we can no longer break that amount into separate milestones. To ensure a smooth setup, notify your expert of your interest in this structure as early as possible.

  • Clear Scope Definitions: To ensure total alignment, each milestone must explicitly outline the tasks and outcomes defined in the original proposal. If requirements evolve, coordinate with your expert to adjust the milestone details as soon as possible, and your expert may need to create a new additional task accordingly.

  • Secure Environment: Every payment is protected by Codeable’s secure escrow environment and is covered by our 28-day warranty once the specific task is marked as complete.

  • Expert Payment: Your expert is only paid when a task is marked as complete. Note that marking the main project as complete does not automatically complete any associated Additional Tasks.
